quick and easy medieval costume?

August 10, 2009 · 3 comments

We've been invited to a fundraising medieval banquet on saturday. fancy dress is optional and i'd like to make a bit of an effort but i have 4 days and no access to costume shops... any ideas for a quick and easy costume for a man and a woman? thank you!

woman: wear a long floor length skirt, and then just tie scraps of fabric or scarves to a belt and arrange them over yoru waist, wear with a loose, flowy shirt and lots of bangles for a "gypsy" look

man: anything that is natural colors or earth tones, if you've got high boots, wear those, can tie scarves/sashes around waist and have a piratey/peasanty look

Go online and shop. Try ebay or yahoo shopping. You’ll find something.

Think Robin Hood. You may have a robe or nightie that you can add some ribbons and a flower crown and look like a maiden but the look I like best for women is the gypsy (think Johnny Depp’s pirate) a lots of color and beads and a scarf tied on the side of your head. Your man can be a cleric in a monk’s robe or try a pair of leggins with boots and a tunic like Robin Hood. For a princely appearance he could wear leggins with a cut off velour robe belted and a medallion on a big chain.
