My friend

Thomas asks…

Men's Jewelry: What kind of ring or band to get a man who's "not a jewelry guy"?

I have plans to propose to my boyfriend and I tried to casually ask him if he were looking for a piece of jewelry what would he look for but all he could say is "I'm not a jewelry guy"... I noticed.
So I want to get him something comfortable and easy to get used to and that he'll LOVE!

Here's the general criteria I've based on. If you need more info just ask I'll reply ASAP

>he's allergic to silver
>wears alot of greens, blues, greys, black, tan, white, and jeans
>he's graduating with a degree in exercise science, is going o be working as a personal trainer while he gets his teaching degree and aspires to be a gym teacher
>his eyes change through green, blue, hazel and the rare grey
>he doesnt really like copper so I was thinking platinum, gold, or (my favourite) for the metal
>he's gonna be ancy with this new item to wear so it REALLY needs to be kind of form fitting

I know its alot to go by but its not all a must...

Any and all suggestions are appreciated

and I AM a girl & mid 20s just so I dont get that awkward mix up from my last post. haha!

Thanks!!
It's not that I'm desperate, Jay, it's because he and I have never been "the norm."

We're 11 years apart in age, but we realized in our first week together that intellectually we're equal.

I've always been above my age. All have always been 5 years older or more.

And we love that our love is just unique.
We're best friends. And he decided he would wear a ring and that the proposal was fair play from either side. He also loves the idea of being courted equally.

It's a new age. Women get to propose too.
he's anti tattoo and thats whats gonna be on my finger... but thanks!

My husband hate jewelry as well. The best king of ring seriously is a tungsten. Go to chiseltungsten.com. You can get something great and at a great price. Best deal is it is indestructible. It is super strong and scratch proof. We got our wedding band from there I have had it for over a year and it looks like I just got it. He loves it because its unique. You will see. Have fun.

Anyone know of a good website to shop for palladium engagement rings and wedding bands?

I'm having trouble finding palladium engagement rings, specifically. My searches have taken me mostly to men's wedding bands, but I'm looking for women's jewelry and men's.

andre1 answers:

If you are asking me, go to http://www.whiteflash.com:) There are plenty of places to shop online but I happened to be partial.

Palladium offers a great price alternative to Platinum. It is a metal that will be hard to work with if you are considering intricate designs. Platinum is white. Palladium is white, but not as white – kind of has a darker cast to it ( you can try looking at the two metals side by side yourself). Lastly Palladium is lighter than Platinum. If all of those points are not show stoppers, it’s worth saving $1000.

Good Luck!

Chris asks…

what should i do with my infected tragus piercing?

So i pierced my tragus 2 weeks before i went overseas, it started to get MILDLY infected but i cleaned it with sea salt soaks.
but meanwhile, a little lump appeared beside my piercing, eventually it got bigger and said that i HAD to pop it. i was against that idea at first because she had no experience with bumps appearing on piercings and so i wanted to check the internet on what solutions i could have done.
apparently the internet access in my hotel room didn't work, so i didn't know what i should do. but the bump started to grow bigger,
i was afraid it was my body trying to push my jewelry out of my tragus but i wasn't too sure. in the end we used a sterilized needle to prick it . i couldn't really tell if anything DID come out of the bump or not.
apparently the hole i made in the bump was too large, so when i woke up the next morning, my piercing has sunk INTO my tragus and i was getting pretty scared and i tried to push it back out from the back to the front but was unable to. so i tried to pull it out through the back but it hurt since my ear was also infected.
so when i was going back to singapore a lot of pus formed and i went straight to the hospital to take the stud out. i was reallllyy disappointed when the doctor suggested me not to put my jewelry back in cause he said if pus appears it means you should take the jewelry out immediately.

but i thought that pus appearing at your piercing is normal and part of the healing process.

and i also felt like i paid 65 bucks for an infection and all this trouble. ):
not planning to re-pierce my tragus because now im afraid the same thing would happen again.
what should i do? i really miss my tragus piercing ):

and tell me everything i've done wrong please! D:

If it's infected I'm sorry but your going to have to take it out for your safety. Keep the area clean once you take it out.

Michael asks…

Do they make 1/2 size gauges?

Right now my ears are at a 4g, they're fully healed and everything I've had them in for 3+ months so they're ready to stretch. I'm having some major issues getting to a 2g and quite frankly I don't want to shove the jewelry through and cause my ear to get a blowout/rip. So if they do make 1/2 sizes can you please post the link, or just any advice on getting this baby through without causing any issues.

Btw; I tried lubing it up with Jojoba oil, and after my ear healed from the last stretching I did the whole massaging regularly with jojoba and those lovely things that are suppose to make the next stretch easier... No help what-so-ever this time.

andre1 answers:

From my experience probably the worse sizing up i ever did was to a 2g. Its just super painful. But i can tell you wat i did. But its still gonna hurt. I bought 2 g plugs and a 0 gauge taper. I pushed the taper through (not all the way though) and then poped in the plugs. Or you can try jsut popping in a pair while in the shower. I say pop because thats teh sound its gonna make, POP! Tapers didnt work for me at this size.

But as far as inbetween its been awhile since i was at a 2 or a 4 so i dont remeber so well but i know for the size i was at before i stretched them to the size they are now there was an inbetween but it was something like 9/16ths.... So maybe find a ?/16th if they have it.

Also might help is google gauge size charts and find the most accurate chart and look there.

what jewelry/makeup with this homecoming dress?

Well, heres the dress:

I was thinking gold jewelry, but my mom insists that I should wear like pink or turquoise. I kinda think those colors would look tacky or cheap, while i'm look to stay more elegant-ish.
I really like earings like these:

but I'm not sure if they go (maybe if they were gold?).

If you have any suggestions for earrings, bracelets, headbands or anything, that would be great!

As for makeup, I really have no idea, so any help would be awesome.
I have blonde hair, green eyes, and a tan complexion.

Linda asks…

story help please (issues with character's jewelry)?

ok, so the main chraracter, Cora, has a piece of jewelry that her mom gave her as a young girl. however, i cant decide what it should be... i was thinking maybe a necklace or a comb or something. however, i'm against earrings, because cora's ears aren't pierced. so i think that the jewelry should be blue, or silver, or some combination, and the charm on it, or whatever should be made of something to do with the ocean (ex. mother of pearl or coral.... but not pearl, because for some reason, i just dont like pearls on jewelry).

so if u guys could suggest something, and describe it, i'd be grateful.

thanx in advance!

~Cassidy
no, this isn't the same story... i usually end up working on multiple plot lines at once.

andre1 answers:

How about a ring made out of either silver or platinum, and it can contain either an emerald or a sapphire? (Emerald = green, Sapphire = blue.)

If it was a silver ring with a sapphire stone set it in it, it would be silver and blue, which is what you wanted.

Of course, you could have it made out of an extremely valuable metal or alloy that no one knows about except the person who made the ring in the first place, that way you could make it whatever colors you want.

P.S. Is this the same story that you were working on before with the super-humans? Just curious...

EDIT: Ah, okay. Just wondering.

Mark asks…

Does go black and how can you maintain it?

I'm interested in buying silver jewelry, as gold these days is just too dam expensive. My mom told me that if you wear your jewelry every day and do your daily activities with it (e.g. wash dishes, bath etc with it on) it goes black? Is this true? I'm very good with my jewelry at the moment. i wear it everyday to work and come home and take it off before i bath.

Is that why its so cheap? I really want to go silver as i have seen my dream wedding ring in silver and for us to go and found it in gold/ we are going to pay thousands for it and at the mo its only R400.00 I'm also worried about wearing expensive jewelry as these days weirdo's come up to you and tell you to give you your rings IN KFC!!!! - that happened to who has just got married and he wanted her R4000.00 ring! am i being a cheapscate or am i going to be wasting my money?

sensible answers please!

andre1 answers:

I use silver... If you have heat body it turns silver into black very fast... I use toothpaste to clean the silver ones... Good luck :)

Ruth asks…

I dont understand about why this upsets me...my mom and her possible engagement ring?

Okay, first off, Im 28, and have a pretty good head on my shoulders, I like to think. I have been with my boyfriend for almost 3 years, and we are very much in love and are waiting for a few ducks to get in the row before marriage. I don't like jewelry, and dont wear any, so me being jealous of my mom is just not possible...

My mom just called me to complain that her new boyfriend (who shes been with for about 6 months), did not have seven grand to throw down on an engagment ring and how disappointed she was. My mom's been married and divorced twice and never got a "good" engagement ring from either of them (both were fairly poor). She was also in an 8 year relationship where the man bought her a ring, but never proposed and ended up returning it. So, its very important to her (I guess) to get this big, expensive ring.....and I guess I just dont understand why.

I am very non-materialistic, and like I said, I dont like jewelry. But my mom acting like a spoiled teenager over not getting what she wants is really bothering me. I tried to act supportive and tell her it must have been disappointing, but...I cant help but just feel sick to my stomach over it.

Do I have the right to feel this way? Should I just get over it and let my mom live her life? I dunno....

andre1 answers:

Different people have different priorities and needs. You mother has been married and divorced twice, and was in a long term relationship with someone who did buy her a ring, but she apparently never got what she wanted out of the relationships (otherwise they probably wouldn't have ended).

Now, she wants an expensive ring. Someone has to be fairly committed to her if they are going to spend big bucks on a ring. She is looking for proof of that sort of committment, and the only way she can get it in a tangible fashion is to have the guy buy her something expensive. That proves his love and commitment to her. Lots of guys can tell you that they love you, however nothing says it quite like a big ring you can look at any time you want. And she has also been in several relationships, and people (and friends) can sometimes be cruel (intentionally or unintentionally) by saying - well, you're getting married again, you're getting another ring, here we go again. By having a big ring to show around, she is trying to say that this one is different. This new one really loves her - see the proof on my finger ? - he's not like the others, who she believed in but who eventually left her. This one is worth it - and he proved it by giving me the ring I wanted, unlike the others.

I'm not materialistic, either, but my mother was, to an extent. She was only ever married to my father, but around their 25th wedding anniversary, she had her original wedding ring re-done and had him buy her a much larger diamond. He hated it and wanted to keep the original, but he went along and did it. It made her feel vindicated, like she was right to have stayed with him all these years, nad it was proof that he cared for her and that he had been a success in life.

Let you mother have what she wants, and be happy for her. There's nothing for you to "get over" - it doesn't really affect you at all, since you're not paying for it or anything. Just make happy noises and be very impressed when she shows it to you - that is what she is looking for, and you'll make her happy without any cost to yourself. You can also tell her that the guy must really love her if he'll give her something as special as that, and that's what she wants.

For those of us who are more materialistic, some day you may inherit the ring, and if you want to sell it, you'll end up with a bit of money that you hadn't anticipated getting. Just keep telling yourself that and you'll probably feel better about the whole thing !

Powerful words to go on a piece of jewelry?

I'm 14 and I've been through a lot. My mom has cancer, my dad is drifting away from me because of his controlling new girlfriend, and I've finally found my passion; figure skating. Unfortunately, 14 is an old age to start at and I've been trying really hard to work my way up to the same level as people my age. Because I love it, I've been progressing really quickly. So I wanted to get a necklace or a bracelet that has special meaning to me. I want it to have a powerful word(s) on it like:
Strength
Passion
Desire
Dream
Courage
Inspire
Peace
Love
Hope
Etc...
Any other words that you can think of?

P.S. I'm not complaining about my life or anything. If your life is horrible, please don't think that I'm being ungrateful or anything. I know that I'm a very lucky person, and I know my life is easy compared to other people in this world. Just wanted to give you guys a little story behind my reason for wanting words on a piece of jewelry, and giving you guys a better idea of what I'm looking for.
Thanks so much in advance!

Ugh! I hate my ex's new wife?

She is such a slut! She is a professional , very Russian in her upbringing, and they have a baby together. I swear she starved herself and got implants too because she lost her baby weight way too fast and her boobs are still HUGE and abnormally perky(I mean, come on! I have a 3 year old and I still have to wear my maternity jeans and my boobs have dropped way down!).

My ex inlaws apparently love her and swear up and down that she is smart and sweet. And she has paintings and drawings posted up on her website that she claims to have done herself, as well as "handmade" jewelry, that are no way her work! My ex even got a new tattoo recently that she had drawn herself(he claims). She also told his family and supposedly "proved" to them that she speaks spanish, russian, french, and german as well.

She also has "modeling" pictures up on her website as well(pre, during, and post baby) that show her all laughing, or sexy, or all shiny eyed. She apparently doesn't smoke or do drugs either(bs, I smoke like a chimney and I'm still bigger than her!) and my ex's mom said that it was because she was so "healthy" during her pregnancy she lost the weight so fast. And she wears hip hugger jeans and cute little shirts all of the time and it looks like she spends hours on her hair and makeup. When does she spend time taking care of her baby???

My ex, as well as his parents, believe that she is completely faithful as well. I find this very hard to believe because she is always introducing herself to everyone instead of waiting to be introduced, and she's friendly to everyone! Total slut! I have never been able to stand speaking to her myself because she just disgusts me.

How do I make them see that she is just a lying little skank who is just looking for attention? No one can be that special, how do I get them to see her for what she really is?
Oh, and she's apparently "all natural" with her cooking and skin care too, which is why her face looks so clear(I think she's wearing a ton of coverup!).
i live 8 minutes away from his parents so i see them alot.
and i had fought so hard to get him to even date me and after we divorced she just waltzed on by one day and he fell to his knees. she's a slut.

andre1 answers:

Why are you so involved in the life of your ex ?

He is over you and with another.

You need to move on.

I have been married for 10 years, and I don't know even one or two things like that about my husbands first wife.

How do you know all of that stuff ? Do you have a spy there ? And, how do you know she is a slut ?-

I think you need to let go and let G*d as they say - move on and stop obsessing.

If she truly is a bad seed ? They will find out soon enough. If she is truly wonderful and a good woman for him ?? Good for him.

Go find your own man.

Peace.

andre1 answers:

How about do something like make dinner, clean the house.

Laura asks…

My dad is on a new medication, I'm worried about the effects?

So around 6 tonight, I was out in my driveway waxing my car. My dad just randomly shows up out of no where (my house is a good 30 minute drive from his). The first thing he starts doing is yelling at me about how "late" it is, and that perverts will rape me and slash my throat if I'm outside (mind you it's still pretty much full daylight out). Then he goes on to accuse me of "stealing" a ring out of a job (I manage his jewelry store, and he's rarely ever in the shop). I tell him the last place I saw the job was on his bench, but I would be happy to go down to the store to help him look for it. He slams his truck door, screams that I'm a liar and drives off.

I call my mom, who picks up the phone sobbing. He has been having "paranoid" fits the past week over nothing, claiming everyone is lying to him, and everyone is out to get him. Then she tells me he's on some new medication for managing his MS pain, called Lyrica, and since he's taken it, he's been going NUTS. Right after I get off the phone with her, my dad shows back up (now it is starting to get dark, and his drivers license restricts him from driving at night). He's crying, he found the job right where I told him it was, asking why people keep "hiding things from him". I try to offer to drive him home, since it's getting dark and he's not suppose to be driving, and he jumps in his truck again speeding off.

I'm really worried that this new medication is having a seriously bed effect on him. He's acting absolutely nuts, and he's really doing irrational and dangerous things. He isn't going to take my advice or concerns, because I see a naturopathic doctor and don't take prescription medications for my crohn's disease. I treat it with a doctor supervised diet that has work extremely well for me. He thinks I'm trying to commit suicide because I won't take prescription meds. I don't want him to do something really bad, like get in a accident, because of this stupid medication. But as I said, he takes no input from me at all on anything medical. He's never listened to my mom either, because she hasn't been to a doctor since right after I was born (ironically both me and my mom are far better health wise than him, and I have a disease just as bad as his). The only person he listens to on this sort of stuff is his doctor. Is there any way I can call up the doctor who prescribed this medication and express my concerns about it? Obviously, it's not a good fit, but he'll keep taking it until his doctor says otherwise. Help please...any suggestions greatly appreciated.

andre1 answers:

I would suggest that both you and your mother call the doctor's office, and let them know about your father's behavior. The alternative (saying nothing) might have grave consequences. I have MS and was given a med that interacted with another med that I was on. As a consequence, my behavior was unacceptable. I am grateful that called my doctor and told her that I had become a raging maniac.

andre1 answers:

If you really don't know what she'd want, how about a ? People will tell you it's not personalized and stuff, but I much prefer it. (I'm a woman - mid 30s.) If I get a gift card, I don't have some cheap piece of jewelry or a cheap figurine sitting around waiting for me to toss it in the rubbish bin. And I don't have stuff I have no use for.

How about Bath and Body? Does she like scented soaps, lotions, or shampoos? If you already know she uses this stuff, call her mother and ask what scent she likes. If mom knows, you won't have to get the gift certificate and can really impress her like you knew. If you buy product, keep the receipt so she can take it back if it's not right.

Does she like books? How about a gift certificate to a chain bookstore? Amazon, Barnes and Nobles, Borders, Hastings, they all have them. If you know she likes to read ask someone what she is looking to read next and get it for her. Keep the receipt in case you were mistaken.

Does she like to go out to eat? To movies? To arcades? Take her. Tell her this is her birthday from you and let her order anything within your means and don't act jerky about it. Just smile and tell her she's worth it. If you want to spend less than you think this will come to, don't even suggest it.

Does she like music? Have an iPod? Buy her an iTunes card. Or a gift certificate from some place that sells CDs. Best Buy comes to mind. Do you know a band she likes but doesn't have? Get it for her. Keep the receipt as always and don't unwrap the clear wrapping if she doesn't like it.

Movies? How about that? Does she have a favorite movie she doesn't own on DVD? If so, get it. And keep the receipt - just in case.

Oh, and flowers never hurt. If she's into collecting stuffed animals, you could do that as the gift and serve it up with a dozen long stemmed roses. If she's not into collecting stuffed animals, you can still do a long stemmed rose or two with whatever you get her. Don't bother with the receipt here. It won't get you nothin'. You're just out, so make sure she is not allergic before you get them. Again, call mom.

In all cases, if you don't know but think there might be something, ask her mom or a friend. Do that on any of these questions. And always always always (except on flowers or food) keep the receipt. Just don't unwrap the cellophane. And you can take it back and get something she likes better. For what it's worth, I sympathize with you, little brother. That person who says "oh nothing" or "just you" is the hardest to buy for.

Buying jewelry to a girl friend you never met in person in xmas is stupid or resemble good relationship?

We used to talk for 2 years now. We know each other through mic, webcam, or technology. Online! Is it stupid to send xmas gift though we never met? It looks nice or dumb? What you think?

andre1 answers:

My Girlfriend is EMO we been dating for about 4 months or so, I want to get her sum Jewelry for x-mas this year, but I'm not sure what kind of jewelry EMO girls like.. I was thinking about getting her the famous Sterling Silver Tiffany & Co. Heart tag necklace or they Gold lock with the heart in the center... But I don;t know if she would like those or not.. I want it to be something impressive... Any EMO girls out there have any Ideas for me? I hope someone can really help... Thanxz all...
Thanxz Awberry that helps a bunch, I did see a lot of choker style necklaces there..

E. Havok yes she is...

Thanxz Niki a few friends said the same thing, that's my next place to look... I just wanted to get something from Tiffany & Co. cause I really wanted to impress her, and with the things that's been going on with her for the past few months, she really does deserve to be spoiled, so I wanted to try and do something really nice for her... But thatnxz for the help Niki... : )

andre1 answers:

Okay, I'm not emo, but I can tell you this.

Girls, emo or not, will still love that type of jewelry. You could still get her the Tiffany & Co. Necklace.

For emo chicks though, get her a necklace that is like.. Dog collar-like. You know what I mean? Choker-ish. I KNOW that T&Co. Has that type of necklace.

Good luck! But hey, you have a couple of months to think it over.

Paul asks…

Best way to clean jewelry at home?

I have a yellow and white gold antique with all kids of crevices that hold lotion and god knows what else. What is the best way to clean it? Is there a certain brand of cleaner that is better than others, or a recommendation for a good household product?

andre1 answers:

I would recommend bringing into a jewellry store. Most will clean the ring while you wait for free. They usually steam it, then polish it, so its safer to use then a lot of store brand chemicals.

You could also try at home with a very soft toothbrush, and a bit of toothpaste or dishsoap. Either will work.

I hope that helps.

Jenny asks…

In your opinion, what are some of the dumbest inventions for kids?

I truly hate sleepers with snaps. Why on earth would you put snaps on something that really needs a zipper.Who wants to fart around with snaps at 2am? I also think that Barbie jewelry and shoes are crazy. They are so small, my 8 year old always loses them while my vacuum, dog and 7 month old find them for her.

Anyone else have a dumb invention to speak of?
I saw a baby carrier like that the other day. Crazy...
Texas momma-You are right on. I saw on the Today show last week, that they just came out with a toddler Blackberry. I guess it is so she can keep track of snack time and playtime...maybe keep her play dates in order.

andre1 answers:

LOL, I agree with the sleepers with snaps. For God's sake a ZIPPER or VELCRO would be so much better!

I don't understand shoes for infants either... ??? They don't walk! Or how about the overpriced clothes. I got a catelog recently that had organic, "free spirit" clothes for infants and young kids. The cheapest thing was $45 for a tunic shirt. Who on earth wants to pay THAT much for a shirt that is bound to get filthy all the time?? Not me.

And seriously, why do toddlers need a digital camera? I see no point in that personally and they are over priced.

Edit- ARE YOU SERIOUS??? A Blackberry for toddlers!!! How stupid is that! What's next, toddlers with real cell phones? Bluetoothes for toddlers? I swear it gets more ridiculous by the year....

Donald asks…

So do you think I am setting my kids up in specific gender roles that is to narrow?

Wrapping Christmas presents today made me think of GS...
Wrapping up Barbie Stuff, Jewelry & Clothes- for my 2 daughters
Wrapping up Lego & Batman for my stepson

These are gifts I know they will enjoy but I was wondering because of GS do you think that it shouldn't be this way? Wondering feminist view especially?

andre1 answers:

I'll instead tell you a story.

My sister's grandson was playing with his teddy bears when he was about 2 yrs old. [Little kids of BOTH genders are fascinated by plush toys and baby dolls--a little boy will hug another baby as readiliy a sa .] But she wanted him to like trucks, so she bought him a truck. Every time he played with the teddy bear, she'd say oh, no, and hand him the truck. Soon, he learned that to get grandma's favor, trucks "should be" preferred.

That is, in a microcosm, how society works to affect gender roles.
I'm not saying it's horrible, but it's certainly THERE. "Masculine" toys are only that because WE say they are.

As a child, I liked dolls--however, I'd climb a tree, put my doll up there, and say she was at the babysitter. Then I'd go play with something else, like Creepy Crawlers.

Lisa asks…

Do you get your wife a gift for our first kids 1st birthday?

Is this customary? Jewelry, flowers, or something.

andre1 answers:

I've actually never heard of anyone doing that. But if you want to that is a really sweet gesture. The first birthday of your first child is a mile-stone for mommy too. It is a sweet gesture if you want to acknowledge that.

Edit: some are you are a little insensitive i think. After i had kids i realized why it was always such a big deal to my mom to see me on my birthday.

Linda asks…

Would it be rude to ask my Mom to return my graduation gift?

I'm graduating from highschool this year, and my mom got me about $900 in jewelry from Zales (a matching necklace and earrings, real diamonds). I was caught very off-guard by this. I mean, I feel flattered she wanted to give me such a marvelous gift, but in the same sense, I am not a jewelry person so much. And to not be a jewelry person and get $900 in jewelry, it seems like a bit of a waste.
However, something I do need for school is a laptop. I could easily use the money from the jewelry to pay for the laptop, because I am sure my Mom would feel iffy about buying me a new laptop on top of all of the jewelry. This would be the most practical thing and give me a gift I'll actually be using.
However, I don't want to offend my mom. The jewelry is abolutely beautiful but I know I'll never wear it...and a laptop is something I could actually use for college. (Also the insurance on the $700 necklace doesn't even cover theft, I'd be too afraid to wear it!)
Should I risk asking her to return it and getting a laptop instead, or keep my mouth shut?

andre1 answers:

I know you really want that laptop but I think it would really hurt your mother's feelings to ask her to return the jewelry. She was clearly feeling very motherly and picturing you in them when she picked them out. I'm sure she was expecting you to be surprised and happy. To take that away from her would be mean.
On the bright side, I'm sure you'll get cash from other relatives especially if you sent out graduation announcements. It just may be enough for a laptop or at least a good portion of the cost and then maybe you can sway your parents into covering the rest on the argument that you really need it for college.

John asks…

What should I get for my mom and dad for Christmas ?

My dad us a sailor while my mom is just well she like jewelry and the spa and stuff like that. It needs to be cheap. Both of their presents added together can't be more than $25

andre1 answers:

From personal experience, I know that most parents love hand made gifts. So if you made them a tie fleece blanket, a scrapbook, homemade ornaments, make a calender for 2012 with family photos..

I know there aren't many ideas there, but I hope maybe I sparked one for you.
Good luck and Merry Christmas(:

Mandy asks…

Betty asks…

Even after restitution, can a person still get imprisoned for grand or petite larceny?

pawned her moms jewelries she'll be able to get them back, will her mom still be able to imprison her even after paying a fine and returning all the stolen items this is in las vegas

andre1 answers:

No, of course her mom can't imprison her. There is no private law enforcement in the US. Holding someone against their will is a crime.

She can still be charged with theft (which is up to the district attorney) and sentenced to incarceration (which is up to the judge or jury), though. Nothing will magically change the fact that a crime has already been committed.

George asks…

my mom is a compulsive gambler/jewelry buyer??

This is strange...Ive been trying my best to figure my mother out for YEARS! she steals from . she stole a loan refund check of mine for 5g's when i was studying overseas and lied about it, leaving me stranded w/ no way of getting home. shes stolen the identities of my siblings and myself, placing numerous bills in our names, and never paying them. ive know for years that she was an alcoholic, and had a problem with gambling. I was snooping in her room this afternoon (im 24, i should really grow up....) and I found tons of expensive jewelry with prices still in the box. A diamond and gold necklace for $1,000, a pair of earrings for 1250, another pair for 900. problem is, she never pays her bills on time, she and my dad share one car because they cant "afford" another. whats going on?? is this typical of a gamblers behavior?? shes always been a compulsive returner. she would go on a spending spree, buying shoes, clothes, etc and then returning them.
I have stumbled upon open websites on the computer for people who are addicted to gambling, she clearly knows she has a problem tho no one in my family has EVER spoken about it.

andre1 answers:

Maybe it's time you talked with a doctor and/or a lawyer about this problem, as she has gone beyond the "buy and return" phase, and may face criminal charges if and when she is caught!

How should I tell my parents I got an inverse navel piercing?

http://bodymod.dk/forum/attachments/dsc00014navel.jpg

ok, well, i'm going to get that piercing on saturday, (behind my parents' backs...), and i'm not sure how to tell them.
(i'm underage, but i have a friend who's very good at piercing.)

also, i'm willing to face the consequences of getting the piercing behind their back. if i do something my parents don't like, it only makes sense that i would get in trouble.
but i won't want to take the jewelry out! so, i'm trying to think of a way to break it to them gently...

any ideas?

(yes, i will take proper care of it afterwards, and i'm aware of rejection and infection. i did my research.)

*please, no answers like:
that piercing is so ugly!
or,
ew! why would you want that!?
also, i was wondering if i should just do normal aftercare...
sea salt soaks & disinfection...

andre1 answers:

You dont have to tell them if you do just be like i got my pierced theres not much you can say ... But if you to tell its easy to hide i mean i hid a tattoo on my foot for half a year lol

Carol asks…

To all you "what does this have to do with GLBT?" type people! Listen up!?

I have a question for you...

Who made you the GLBT forum police with the authority to police our questions? Why are your lives so boring that you have to sit and analyze the relevance of each and every question that comes in here and whether it is "worthy" be deemed qualified to post in this section or not?

Some of us that have been out in the GLBT world for over 10 years have come to a point in our lives where being GLBT isn't the main priority of our life and we are normal people who ask normal questions and live normal lives, and ask questions pertaining to our normal lives.

Maybe some of us get tired of every question we see having the words "gay", "bi", "lesbian", "rainbow", or the ever popular teenage identity drama questions of "does this make me gay/bi/lesbian?" or "I have a crush on my best friend..." or "If I wear this jewelry on this side does that make me gay/lesbian?" or "How do I know if I'm gay/bi/les?" questions. Because honestly? I"m sick of it.

Most of us who come in this section KNOW we are in GLBT. We know where we are and what we are, and who we're asking questions to. Do we really have to define it with adding "GLBT" or "I'm gay/les/bi" in the headline of our question?

andre1 answers:

I know right, I find it annoying when people ask those questions, I like off topic questions, it doesn't feel depressing.

... WHAT?
If it's just for hanging out, why does it matter what stores there are?

Edit- sorry, i didn't mean to sound rude or anything. And to answer your question, i'd say mall 1.

Lizzie asks…

Can I be a lawyer if I have long hair?

I posted this question in other sections as well, but I'd like to see what people think in this forum:

I am a 24 year-old Algonquin native, and I wear long hair and piercings according to my traditional native customs. I'm going to be graduating from law school this spring, and I'm wondering if my long hair and native jewelry might be problematic.
I always keep my hair tied back in formal settings, and it's in really good condition. I really don't want to cut it, because in my culture long hair is a significant part of our identity as natives. But at the same time I've paid a lot of money to get my law school education, and I want to make the most of it, and if that involves chopping off my hair to secure a good job...well, I'll have to do it.

What do you think: Will I be able to land a good job as a lawyer if I keep my long hair, or should I get it cut?

Thanks

I agree with previous-poster "Maggie B".

Ruth asks…

Atheists only; morality as cultural relativism?

Atheists sometimes refer to morality as relative to culture on this forum. Certainly social conventions such as dress and sexuality (incest exempted) are relative to culture (even Christians understand this as they ignore Paul's admonition that women who don't cover their heads are disgraceful as well as Timothy's admonition against wearing any adornments such as jewelry), but true morality, such as helping others = good behavior; harming others = bad behavior is shared not only by all human cultures but by all social animals as well. My question is therefore, how many atheists truly believe that morality is culturally relativistic versus evolved as a logical response to socialty?
Victor, whether gay marriage is seen as acceptable or not is a social convention. It has nothing whatsoever to do with morality.

andre1 answers:

I don't. The problem is not defining terms properly. Morality is universal (at least in terms of the universe of human interaction), but mores are ever changing. Modes of dress, relationships of various intoxicants, consensual sexual behaviors, family structures, dietary taboos, etc., are all social mores.

And far too many people from all over the religious spectrum confuse mores for morality.

My new dogs recently killed my horse, Benedict. Should I punish them? Also, how can i Keep Flapjack safe?

I recently traded some used lumber and some of my mom's jewelry for three mastiff/pit bulls. They like to get rambunctious at night and a few nights ago they clawed their way into Benedict's tent and attacked him and ultimately killed him, I hate to say. What should I do with the dogs since now they may have a taste for horse? I really love Flapjack and have been keeping him in my closed garage the past few days to try to keep them away from him. How would you handle this? Should I put the dogs down? Theres a boy down the street that seems to like them, should I just give them to him? As always, any help is greatly appreciated.

andre1 answers:

Yes. If you have a minivan, stop by the boy as he is walking home from school and tell him he can have a free dog if he gets in your van.

Once he's inside, drive to a secluded area and discuss the new responsibilities of dog ownership with him.

Once he understands, drop him off with the dogs and send him on his way with his new companions!

Anyone have an idea for a cool shoe box?

I want to try to export girl's shoes that are manufactured locally to big corporations in America, but the current packaging the factory uses is pathetic.

I want to design a new shoe box and brand name and then send samples to corporations.

Have any ideas to make a shoe box that is appealing to moms and little girls? I was thinking having some of that mirror paper stuff to make it look like a jewelry box or something.

andre1 answers:

One that can be used as a photo box or recipe box little girls jewelry would be cool. Just add recipe cards or dividers for pics. Little girls you could have holes punched all around box that they could thread yarn through and maybe make your brand name logo. They love crafts at that age. Then they could keep the box to put pics and stuff in.

Susan asks…

Gift ideas for my wifes birthday?

I don't know what to get her. My moms throwing one of her famous (Famous for ending in disaster) dinner parties for my wife & my brother because their birthdays are only 2 days apart.
For our anniversary I already got her Jewellery and a new car and some other things. Her birthday is not until the 1st of september so....
I'm so stuck on what to get her.
No holidays or anything because we have 2 kids and we found out today we're expecting again so...

andre1 answers:

How about getting her a handcrafted wooden and filling it with stuff that she treasures most.. Like maybe photos of both of you together, etc. I gave a MarqART box for my sister a couple of months back and she really liked it. Check out their collection... Awesome stuff! Very unique and classy.. Am sure she will be pleasantly surprised especially if you manage to fill it up with stuffs she like.

Michael asks…

Sister stealing my stuff constantly, and parents say nothing of it!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!?

My sister takes stuff from my room sonstantly, and it is really bugging me. She takes my Ipod, my purses and bags, makeup, jewelry, clothes, new birthday gifts, and never gives them back unless I scream at her at the tops of my lungs. It is REALLY bugging me and I cry almost every day from it. My mom says that I shouldnt do anything, and shuld just let her take all my stuff and never five it back, and she doesnt punish my sister at all for it. My mom yells at me if I yell at her, so I tried telling her many times "Caitie, this stuff is mine that I or bought with their own money and it is really important to me. If you could please stop taking my stuff..." But that never works, and she always does it again. I really need help!

andre1 answers:

What your parents are doing is wrong she needs to be punish. If she wants to borrow your things all she has to do is ask. If you tell her no, well she just cant get it. That's all.

Sometimes colour and black should not be mixed - this is the case here. I think the dress is absolutely gorgeous but will NOT look so with those shoes. Here are some ideas:

Crawling baby...and 4 year old..any safety tips?

Obviously I have all the gates and plug covers, drawer and cupboard locks...but baby is only just 6 months and just started crawling in the last 2 days..her 4 year old sister is constantly leaving teeny tiny toys around the floor and of course the baby is going straight for them...I pick up all the time but now and then I see something I missed...today it was beads and some kids jewelry...I have explained a million times to my 4 year old what could happen if baby gets any small toys... I have given her special boxes and banned her from beading in the living room but while I am doing something else she is leaving comics which the baby grabs and chews and worries me sick! What can I do short of banning all toys from the living room...I my eldest to feel like I am pushing her out.

My opinion, with a baby life is going to change for everyone and I don't think it's bad (I don't feel that you would be pushing her out) to set new boundaries. Your four year old needs to experience changes and she needs to learn how to deal with them and readjust. It's just a life experience that we all need to learn, because it's something we will all face. I think that you should talk to her and tell over and over again. Keep reminding her, even before she leaves the toys out. Tell her while she is playingthat when she is done she needs to put the toy/s away. Use positive reinforcement, when she does it, even if you have to tell her to put it away, make sure you let her know what a good girl she is and how much she helped mommy. Also if she does leave a toy out don't pick it up yourself, bring her in the room to pick it up and put it away. And when you feel that this isn't working then show her what happens to toys she doesn't put away. Put something aside and tell her this is where toys go when she doesn't put them away like mommy asks and tell her she won't get them back until she proves that she can put her other toys away or she can get them back in a certain time frame. Good luck.

Trying to find awesome charm bracelets?

My friend's birthday is coming up, and I decided that I wanted to get her a ..I found a really awesome one, but it was... a little out of my price range. I don't really want anything childish, like the bracelets you see in the kids jewelry section at walmart.. This was the bracelet I found:

http://www.unique-vintage.com/sweet-romance-loteria-macabre-charm-bracelet-p-2443.html?osCsid=s0mhcsuj42cdc5n1nc42fet4h5

it's kind of dark and cute at the same time, so i thought it would be cool for my friend. Any ideas?

thanks! ^_^
