Linda asks…

Which costumes??? I don't want to look slutty...HELP!!!?

Do you think these look slutty??? I want either of these costumes. I'm 13 and I was thinking of putting leggings under either of them so it doesn't look slutty. But when I showed my mom she said they both look slutty EVEN though I was going to put something under them. Will someone please help me?!?!?! tell me what to do to make them not slutty or give me another website that has the same but not slutty. Also do you think they look slutty??? Thanks!!!

Robert asks…

How to act like a ?

For my final drama exam I have to be a fortune teller, but I have no idea how to act like one or talk like one. I have my costume, but other than that I'm not prepared. And it has to be over a minute. Any ideas?

andre1 answers:

1. Rent "The Wolfman" starring Lon Chaney Jr. And listen to Maria Ouspenskaya talk, especially when she recites that bit that goes "Even a man who is pure at heart, and says his prayers at night.."

2. Go to the link below on coldreading, described by magician/skeptic James Randi. It tells you how to fake being psychic.

George asks…

Where can I find cheap Renaissance costumes?

Where can I find cheap, but good Renaissance costumes? I know they are expensive, but anything that is cheaper. Or at least a semi cheap bodice. The clothes don't have to be all renaissance, but something medieval themed. They can be a peasant, gypsie or whatever outfit but I would prefer one that includes a nice dress (something like a princess outfit). This is for a renaissance fair... so something in that genre I would appreciate.

Or, do you have any ideas on how to build a cheap renaissance faire costume that is for a princess (nothing that shows the stomach because I heard you get made fun of if you dress like a witch or belly dancer or gypsy).

Thank you!

I have the same problem, heres how I fixed it.

1. THRIFT - For the last 2 years, I've been thrifting most of my costumes. I ask friends if they have fake corsets (they were popular in the 90s?) and I search old stores to see if they have anything. I've found something without fail.

2. Halloween Costume Stores - They sell really cheaply made stuff. But the good part is, some of their costumes have nice, fake velvet under/over dresses that can be used to make a nice-looking princess dress.

3. Dont be afraid to splurge - If you know you'll wear it for the next 4+ years, then spend the $200 on a really nice costume. Chances are, you'll be glad (like I was) because you'll wear it for years to come, and you can laugh at the people AT the faire spending $400 on the same thing.

Ebay is always a good one, I've also found great things at some of the websites listed.

Also, where did you hear people get made fun of if they dress like a Gypsy or Bellydancer? Im apart of the Bellydancing group that does the Faire in my City, and no one EVER gets made fun of. They get hit on a lot by the cute men, though. ;)

Coming Up With Designs For Striking and Original Can Be Challenging

Once a year everyone is on the lookout for the best Halloween creation. Finding the right outfit for the party is important. Everyone will be seeking easy but creative options in Halloween costumes.

Many people enjoy this annual event and the excuse it offers to dress up in bizarre and magnificent outfits. There are those who plan well in advance and others who decide on something to throw on at the last minute. Regardless of the preparation time, everyone wants to be noticed for their originality and creativity.

It is necessary to look around for inspiration and creative ideas. You may decide to emulate a specific movie star. Or you may prefer to go back in time and dress in accordance with a specific era. The Hunchback of Notre Dame is an easy, but effective idea. Pad your back with a chunk of foam, put a wig on your head and grab an old coat and you are ready to impress the crowd. Go the extra mile and impersonate the character and you will be a winner.

Animals and cartoon characters are always good fun and will attract a good few laughs. Many costume hire stores have a variety of characters and animal Halloween costumes Canada for you to choose from. Including an extra prop like a whoopee cushion will definitely add to the party atmosphere.

You and your friend or partner may decide to go as a famous couple. It is up to you as to how interesting or funky your couple outfits will be. Anthony and Cleopatra may be your choice to make a grand entrance looking graceful or mysterious or simply dynamic. The naturalist in you may prefer to go green and adorn your robe with coconuts or flowers or leaves and so forth.

Dressing as a gypsy is easy and effective. Wear lots of layers, scarves, funky jewelry in as many colors as you wish. Local flea markets will be a good place to shop for gypsy accessories.

Medieval themes are very popular nowadays. Stepping back into the Renaissance era can be easy and loads of fun. Many dresses on offer at local costume shops will be suitable for period outfits. By dressing as royalty, you can include the trimmings of crowns, tiaras and gold masks.

Eighteenth century fashion includes ornate jewel encrusted gowns which were popular in this time. A prom dress or bridesmaid gown can be adapted to look like it belonged in this period. Add some feathers, petticoats, extravagant jewels and an ornate mask and your outfit is complete.

Perhaps the dark side is more to your liking. Phantom of the Opera costume ideas can work well for the Gothic look. If you have a color preference, you can try specific color combinations to suit specific themes and moods. The thrill and intrigue of masquerade parties is prevalent in the guests donning fascinating and captivating outfits.

There are many creative and fascinating Halloween costumes 2011 one can design and put together. The only limitation is your imagination. Not much can compare with the fun of a costume party at this time.

I am helping at a renaissance/ middle ages camp and i need a used costume. (not rented, i want to keep) they want me to be a queen so i will need a dress, crown/ tiara, and maybe shoes. if you can, please send me a link.

PS i can't sew and i don't have E-bay.

You might see if you can have someone from your local SCA group make one for you, or try a store that carries costumes.

Most costumes I've looked at are made with shiny fabrics that don't look real. This is going to dub as Renaissance Faire garb.

Make your own! If you can sew a straight line, it's really not that hard. Stay with natural fibers (cotton, linen, wool). Synthetics trap the heat, and you do not want that at Faire, unless you want to get the attention of that cute EMT in the ambulance.

Start here, for skirt (you'll want to make 2) and chemise patterns
http://www.reddawn.net/costume/patterns.htm
Then here for a bodice pattern
http://www.elizabethancostume.net/kirtlepat/index.html
and voila!
Don't go with the commercial patterns; they won't fit right, and are way more complicated than the more authentic patterns... (I've tried both, the authentic way was much, much easier...)

Or, go here to buy one:

I'm curious on this, as I went to King Richard's Faire yesterday and bought one because I think they look cool. Just wondering if they have some meaning when worn on the back of your costume.

People in the renaissance wore them as a sign of status because fox hunting was something that the rich did.
As for meaning today, I don't think there is anything. Probably just people being stupid and thinking you were supposed to wear them like you have an actual tail. Who knows?

For the dress It would be good for it to be under 30 dollars or like 34 dollars

For the Corset 20 dollars or under........... (the corset should be black or simple, it is for a renaissance ball/ festival )

Thank you so much, IT is a easy way to get 10 points

The cheapest way to find a renaissance dress would be on ebay. They'll be expensive in and the alternative is to make it yourself.

I got a corset for a lingerie party at Hot Topic for $20 but they don't have the kind that will make your waist thinner and bust higher, they're just costume.

I am going to the renaissance faire this Saturday and I threw together a costume from goodwill, but I have no hat. What kind of hat should I wear and where can I find one? Don't say a Robin Hood hat, cuz thats like medieval, not renaissance

A hat with a feather in or a knight hat if you are a knight.

ok i was just infromed by my parents that we r going 2 the renaissance festivle tomorrow and i got ride of my old costumes because they didnt fit so please help me how could i make a fast costume with little sewing?

If you're OK with going as a wench--long full skirt (with possibly another one over it that you can gather), white top with a dark vest over it, wide belt, maybe a snood-type hair cover.

Here's a pic for inspiration:
